Irene is Deloitte’s leading General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) subject matter expert and a licensed European privacy lawyer. Irene is part of Deloitte’s National Data Protection and Privacy Practice and provides advisory and implementation services on European data protection, international privacy compliance, and privacy risk management.
Irene has conducted dozens of GDPR readiness assessments – for travel, retail, financial, and technology companies – to help clients assess their GDPR compliance and develop road maps to comply with the regulation before the May enforcement deadline. She is also actively working with clients to implement policy and process changes to address GDPR compliance.
Irene has developed global compliance frameworks, considering privacy legislation for both the private and public sectors across America, Asia, and Europe. Irene has conducted several Privacy by Design Readiness Assessments, which benchmark organizations’ data handling practices against PIPEDA and GDPR requirements as well as privacy and security industry standards and best practices. Recently, she worked with one of the Personal Data Protection Commissions in Asia on the development of a Privacy Certification Framework based on GDPR, PIPEDA, and Privacy by Design, among other privacy laws and standards.
Prior to joining Deloitte, Irene was a Legal Privacy Researcher at Nymity, a global research company that specializes in privacy risk solutions, where she conducted research on global privacy regulations with a special focus on European Union legislation, including GDPR and ePrivacy Directive. She is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, a Certified Canadian and United States Information Privacy Professional, and a frequent speaker on the topic of GDPR. Irene holds a Cyber Security Management Certificate from the University of Toronto.
