Why Attend IdentityNORTH?

IdentityNorth is Canada’s premier community and series of events for individuals and organizations interested in digital identity and the digital economy. IdentityNorth is where Canadian and international leaders come to share the ideas and knowledge that will drive Canada’s digital future.

IdentityNorth was founded on a vision of building a community for the purpose of supporting 3 objectives:

Educate:
Inspire Canadians with a sense of the new opportunities presented by broad adoption of Digital ID as a foundational piece in our lives. We see a huge opportunity to grow our economy by building literacy around Digital ID, privacy, and the emergence of our digital economy.

Connect:
Guide Canadians into a bigger, broader set of discussions, and activities surrounding Digital ID and its applications. The solutions to the challenges and opportunities ahead likely already lie in exploring each other’s ideas, technology, and working together. We can’t work together if we don’t know each other. How better to really know someone than to learn from leaders, engage in lively discussion, explore new ideas and share meals together?

Promote:
Support world-class Canadian companies as they seek to gain profile and access to projects and opportunities across Canada and around the world. We Canadians punch above our weight, contributing seminal work like The 7 Laws of Identity, Privacy by Design, the widely adopted Levels of Assurance, and the Digital ID and Authentication Council of Canada. Unfortunately, we often export by exporting our people. IdentityNORTH will help Canadians to share our technology and architectures around the world and, in doing so, to also export our principles to help lead the world. We will help create a globally recognized hub of excellence here in Canada.

The Annual Summit is held every June. The 2-day event delivers high value content through its subject matter experts, keynotes, panels, fireside chats and an “unconference” day.”

What is an UnConference?2019-04-09T18:06:54+00:00

At an UnConference, no topics have been predetermined, no keynote speakers have been invited, no panels have been arranged. Instead, the event lives and dies by the participation of its attendees. Assisted by a facilitator, attendees decide what topics will be discussed and convene the individual breakout sessions. In other words, an unconference has no agenda until the participants create it.

Many attendees say that this day of IdentityNORTH is the most valuable day for them! Drawing upon the incredible expertise of gathered attendees, participants will work together to tackle the hottest topics and thorniest issues facing the industry. It is recommended attendees come prepared to challenge the room with the toughest “opportunities” on their plate.

In 2018, for instance, the unconference had 5 segments, during which 5 concurrent breakout sessions took place, for a total of 25 sessions.

There are only two rules at an UnConference:

  1. Nobody is giving a presentation – unconferences are all about conversations
  2. If a session doesn’t inspire attendees and they are not contributing, they should get up and find a different one (it’s called the Law of Mobility).
